There are a whole bunch of new features to check out, but first the highlights. Now you will be able to:
Here are a few tips to guide you through some of the new features:
Your member account has been migrated from the old site, and can be accessed through the email address you signed up with. On your first visit you’ll need to use the ‘forgot password’ to gain access to your account. Contact us if you can’t remember which email this is.
Once you’re in, depending on what details you had in the old system some of them may be pre-filled for you, but double-check them to be sure they’re up-to-date.
There are three privacy options for your account. You’ll be set to Private by default, but to let other members, or the public see your profile select this option from the drop-down menu. Your screen name, image and bio will always be public.
To be contacted by other members you’ll need to select “Yes” under the “Accept email from other users” option. This will put an “Email” button next to your profile and then others can contact you through the site (they won’t see your email unless you reply to their message).
UP is all about networking and we want to make it easier for you to connect with other people in Wellington ICT.
To help this along, now you will be able to search for other members so when you meet someone interesting at an event you will be able find them online. And you won’t have to wait for events to find people with similar interests to you: just use the search.
Settling in to a new city can be tough, especially for people with families, but UP is here to help. We’ve created the Mentor system to help new Wellingtonians settle in - whether they’ve moved here from overseas, or from other parts of NZ.
Shifting career path can be tricky as well, so if you’re interested in heading in a different direction in the ICT arena, hunt out a mentor to get some advice.
Just search “Only Mentors” in the Member List.
By chosing to be a mentor you’re saying you’re happy to meet up for a coffee and give some advice about Wellington in general, or in specific areas that you have expertise or interest.
To become a Mentor set your Mentor Availability to “Yes” under “Work Details” on your profile. Make sure you select “Yes” under the “Accept email from other users” option as well so member can contact you.
Got an event that you’d like to invite UP members to? Now you can add your event to our website and get the word out. Simply fill out the “Add an Event” form under “Events”.
Once it’s approved it will appear in the Upcoming Events list, and we’ll include a mention of it in our regular news emails.
Happy testing! Please contact us with your comments.
