Most new technology ideas happen on the boundaries where diverse communities overlap... get connected with Wellington IT communities at the SiliconWelly / Start-UP party on 10 July.

This event is all about making connections with IT communities in our town, launching the magazine in Wellington, and honestly, a great excuse for a party!

Start UP

Start-Up Media: currently filming a tv series focusing on profiling NZ's online community, and at the same time about to launch the 2nd edition of Start-Up magazine.

SiliconWelly

SiliconWelly: a community of Wellington based, NZ-owned technology and creative businesses individuals and organisations who together are making Wellington a high quality global hi-tech hub.

Step up with UP to this fine networking opportunity, a celebration of all things Welly with fine Hell pizza (all the way from the top 'o' Cuba St), fine networking (that's you) and a fine story of Start-Up success.  Space is strictly limited so register NOW to secure your spot... no badge, no beer...

Event Review:

StartUP and Silicon Welly crowd

Proving that Wellingtonians - and Aucklanders - need no excuse to party, the SiliconWelly and Start-Up party held last week was a sell-out (so to speak, the event was, with muchas gracias to Telecom & HP... free!).

More than 120 of our finest ICT professionals joined the UP team at the Wellington Rowing Club to celebrate the launch of Start-Up magazine's second edition and to network with local collective, Silicon Welly.

Tim speech

Tim Norton, of PlanHQ fame, gave a stirring speech promoting Silicon Welly, our immense local talent and the success of Wellington's technology organisations on the international stage.

Patrick speech

He then handed the mike to Patrick MacFie from Start-Up Media, who provided insights into bridging the online/offline environment and proved - through working some crazy hours - it is possible to put out an impressive and informative magazine in just seven weeks and kickstart a television series. (Start-Up TV is set to screen on TV One later this year - you can check out some of their videos on www.start-up.co.nz),

For those of you who couldn't make it - you missed a great networking event and the opportunity to pick up a free copy of Start-Up (plus some great food, wine, beer (thanks Telecom), fabulous waterfront venue (thanks HP) and 'swag' from our sponsors, Hell Pizza, 920, MagnumMac, Mojo, Ma Maison and cafenet). Check out photos from the night here: http://up.org.nz/siliconwelly-startup-party/

We had a demo iMac 24" from Magnum Mac and it captured the networking evening:
